Professor Pawar holds a chair in Operations Management at the University of Nottingham as well as a Visiting Faculty chair in Operations and Supply Chain Management at the Indian Institute of Technology (IITM), Chennai, India. He has substantial managerial and consulting experience within new product design & development (NPD), manufacturing engineering, supply chains, logistics and operations management in a variety of sectors including the aerospace, pharmaceutical, telecommunication and fast moving consumer goods etc. He has authored over 300 papers in leading international journals and conferences and has chaired over thirty five international conferences as well as delivered over 20 keynote addresses around the globe. His research interests include collaboration in NPD teams, managing pharmaceutical R&D supply chains, analysis and configurations of logistics and supply chain networks and operations in different contexts, sectors in Europe, China and India. During 2016-18, he was seconded to the Nottingham University's Ningbo Campus (UNNC) to lead a project on port logistics. Professor Pawar has been involved in more than thirty major funded research projects and has coordinated and managed a number of national, European and international projects and networks. Currently he is leading a network on cold supply chains with a membership spanning 20 countries. He was Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Logistics: Research & Application (2002-2007) and is a member of editorial boards of several journals. He is the founder and Chairman of the International Symposium on Logistics (www.ISL21.org), which has been held annually around the world since 1993 and co-founder and co-organiser of the International Conference on Concurrent Enterprising (ICE). He sits on several international professional committees, boards and is an expert reviewer, evaluator and consultant to the European Commission.

His research interests include managing new product design and development, managing design teams in a distributed global context, organisational readiness for new product development and digital supply chains. Analysis and configurations of logistics and supply chain networks in different contexts and sectors in Europe, China and India. The impact of disturbance factors in outsourcing on supply chain operations; the interplay between emerging technologies (such as 3DP & Cloud Manufacturing, Digitalisation) and supply chain configurations. He is currently working with the Indian Institute of Technology (IITM, Chennai, India on a SPARC funded project investigating the role of digital manufacturing supply chains on performance in Chinese, Indian and European context. He is also engaged in a number of collaborative projects and initiatives on food waste in cold supply chains.


He has published over 300 papers, including articles in leading international journals such as the International Journal of Operations and Production Management, International Journal of Production Economics, R&D Management, Technovation, International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics, Expert Systems with Applications,Production Planning and Control: The Management of Operations, Supply Chain Management: An International Journal, Concurrent Engineering, Journal of Business Research, Manufacturing Technology Management. He is the former the Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Logistics: Research & Application and sits on the editorial board of more than international journals and several international conferences. He is Chairman of the International Symposium on Logistics (ISL), and Co-founder and co-organiser of the International Conference on Concurrent Enterprising (ICE). He has coordinated the Concurrent Enterprising Network of Excellence (CE-NET) in Europe and is involved in several national and pan-European multi-disciplinary research projects. He is an expert reviewer, evaluator and consultant to the European Commission.
