Research Topic:
Entrepreneurial capabilities for resilience building in SMEs during early-stage internationalisation

Research Details:
I am researching what capabilities entrepreneurs might develop to improve organisational resilience during early-stage SME internationalisation. The objectives of the research are to investigate the key challenges that SMEs experience during early-stage internationalisation; investigate the entrepreneurial resilience of individuals and firms and their interconnectivity; and identify the entrepreneurial characteristics and capabilities that could improve SME resilience during early-stage internationalisation. Early-stage internationalisation for smaller firms carries increased uncertainty and carries liabilities of being new, small and foreign in unknown markets. Understanding what capabilities SMEs could develop to mitigate these liabilities and manage uncertainty in this specific context could lead to firms being more successful and reducing failure rates.
