About us
The Centre for Society, Nature and Organisations (SNO) brings together researchers representing a variety of disciplines, across Nottingham University Business School, who are committed to advancing inclusive stakeholder engagement practices and democratic methodologies of research in order to develop impactful theories and practice based solutions to existing social and environmental challenges.
The Centre builds on the strong foundations and legacy of the International Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility (ICCSR) which was home to many foundational academic contributions in the field of corporate social responsibility, including Dirk Matten and Jeremy Moon’s 2008 Academy of Management Review Paper entitled: ‘“Implicit” and “explicit” CSR: A conceptual framework for a comparative understanding of corporate social responsibility’.
The launch of SNO marks a new and exciting chapter in the long history of ICCSR and Nottingham University Business School, being predicated on embracing creativity, imagination, hope and futurity in researching the relationship between society, nature and organisations.
SNO members continue to champion knowledge exchange and co-production with businesses, civil society organisations and public actors at both national and international levels.
At its launch, members co-created collaborative poetry and creative button-maps to illustrate SNO’s aspirations and its vision for a more inclusive and ethical future.
SNO is part of the Network for Business Sustainability, a global community sharing open-access knowledge to advance fair and ecologically sound business practices.
Through this network, SNO connects with international sustainability leaders to exchange insights and strengthen collective impact.
