The Finelli lab explores the multiple facets of the neurodegenerative process using a wide range of molecular and cellular approaches, as well as transcriptomics, metabolomics and proteomics. Their main research centers around the role of oxidative and nitrosative stresses and redox mechanisms in the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative conditions including Alzheimer's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and frontotemporal dementia.

Dr Mattéa Finelli established her group in January 2020 at the University of Nottingham Biodiscovery Institute. The Finelli lab aims to advance our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative disease and to develop and test new therapeutic strategies for these disorders.
In particular, the Finelli lab explores the proteins present in the human brain and how these proteins change in neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's disease and motor neuron disease. They also develop new tools to promote the use of stem cell technology for improved disease modeling and drug testing.
The Finelli lab uses a combination of stem cell technology, gene editing, cell phenotyping, quantitative and redox proteomics, recombinant protein- and cell-based functional assays and in vitro drug screening.

Dr Mattéa Finelli is Deputy Director of the Centre for Dementia, and founder and Project Leader of the International Network of Neurodegenerative Disease Research (part of the Global Alliance of Medical Excellence Network) and of the International Dementia Network (part of Universitas 21).
