Biography

Born in Sheffield, Simon studied Fine Art at Chesterfield College before completing his BA, MA, and PhD in History of Art at the University of Leeds. He is currently a Teaching Associate in History of Art at Nottingham. Prior to this, he lectured at Birkbeck, UCL, University of Leeds, Newcastle University, and University of Aberdeen and is a longstanding Consultant Lecturer for Sotheby's Institute of Art, London. During his doctoral studies, he also worked as an editor for parallax.

Expertise Summary

Simon is a specialist in modern and contemporary art, with a particular focus on the history and theory of photography. His areas of expertise include street photography, documentary, photojournalism, the relationship photography and post-war American art, and contemporary photographic practices. Simon's broader research interests extend to critical theory, socially engaged art, and the relationship between aesthetics and politics.
