Despite the French government launching a ban on Yellow Vest protests, over 40,000 French people took to the streets of France at the weekend to protest against the Macron government, even more than the previous weekend. This weekend’s protests were also tainted by the plight of one elderly protester in Nice, who received head injuries after police charged protesters.
Sputnik spoke to Dr Paul Smith, Associate Professor in French and Francophone Studies at the University of Nottingham, and asked him whether more violence was likely, as a result of the ban on protests, and if the police were likely to become more heavy-handed?
