Our academics

We know that when it comes to postgraduate studies, finding the right academic can be just as important as finding the right course or university. We've spoken to some of our academics to help you get a better understanding of their research interests and what studying with them may be like.

Ridon, Jean Xavier

Jean-Xavier Ridon, Director of Postgraduate Studies and Professor of French and Francophone Studies

Alex Mevel

Alex Mével, Associate Professor in Translation Studies

"Here, at Nottingham, we offer a very well rounded Translation Studies MA. We cover everything from interlingual translation to translation across languages as well as audio visual translation in the form of subtitling for deaf audiences and audio description for blind audiences. We also train students to use translation management software, the idea behind this is to give them a head start when they start applying for jobs."

"In addition to teaching how to translate and interpret, we place a big emphasis on equipping students with the skills that are required by recruiters in the language services industry. This means we have a lot of technology focused modules to prepare our students for the future."
