She talks to us about her time studying languages at Nottingham.

Why languages?

"I chose Spanish because it was the subject I enjoyed most at school but then took up Portuguese from beginners as I wanted to learn another language and it seemed really interesting. My year abroad was amazing and was 100% the best part of my four years studying. Using everything I’d learned at school and university and putting it into practice with natives was such a life changing experience.

Making friends

I wouldn’t consider myself very academic and I initially found the degree quite overwhelming but I made some incredible friends on my course (who I’m still friends with now) who were able to guide me through.

I didn’t feel like I fitted in at first at all. Language degrees can be heavily populated with students from private schools whereas I was state school educated. I definitely felt like I stuck out at the beginning but the course had some really lovely people on it and we bonded in the library over essays and deadlines!

Tell us about graduation

I was really nervous to get on stage but felt very excited to start my graduate life. My parents were so proud of me and it was lovely to see.

How do you define success?

Success to me is about being happy with what I’m doing in both my work and personal lives and being able to support myself financially. I’ve always felt like this is success."
