On Saturday, 27 September, the annual Autumn Charity Concert welcomed over 200 local residents for an evening of music celebrating a fusion of traditional Chinese and Western sounds. The event was organised by the Nottingham Confucius Institute in partnership with the University’s Lakeside Arts.

The concert programme featured a series of captivating performances from a ensemble of master-level professional musicians. Ling Peng on the erhu, Sid Peacock on guitar, and Ruth Peacock on violin played together seamlessly, presenting a unique repertoire of adapted pieces from Sichuan Opera, Xiang Opera, Beijing Opera, and other Chinese folk songs including "Happy Joy Song" and "Jasmine Flower." Their superb artistry was met with rounds of enthusiastic applause from the audience.

The event also included a special performance from University of Nottingham alumna, Zhenzhen Zhu, on the guzheng. Following her well-received solo piece, "Dance of the Yao People," she engaged the audience with an interactive "guess the tune" game, which proved to be a popular segment of the evening.

The concert provided a highly enjoyable evening for all in attendance, with the musicians delivering excellent performances for a very appreciative audience. View event highlights here.

We are pleased to announce that the event raised a total of £1,360 in support of the Nottingham Breast Cancer Research Centre (NBCRC) at the University of Nottingham.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all the musicians, the staff at Lakeside Arts and NCI, and our dedicated volunteers for their hard work in making the event a success. We are also very grateful to the audience for their generous support. We look forward to seeing you at future events.
