9 Feb saw sixty year 4 students attend Chinese language and cultural workshops delivered by teachers from Nottingham Confucius Institute (NCI) on University Park campus as part of the Discovery Days event. During the one-hour language taster, the children learnt how to introduce themselves, how to say thank you and goodbye and how to count from one to ten in Mandarin through interactive games. This was followed by a one-hour crafts workshop, where lots of fun was had making Chinese lanterns (pictured right).

Led by the University’s Widening Participation Team, Discovery Days offer local school children engaging, hands-on sessions with academics. Children also get the opportunity to meet current students and take an interactive campus tour. NCI was proud to join other departments in offering local pupils the opportunity to broaden their horizons with learning and fun.
