On Saturday 6 December, the Nottingham Confucius Institute (NCI) brought a vibrant close to its Autumn term with a festive party. The event featured a delicious Chinese buffet lunch, student performances, interactive games, and award presentations, creating a warm and celebratory atmosphere for teachers and students to reflect on a successful term and welcome the future.
In her opening address, NCI Co-Director Professor Chen Ying highlighted the term’s key accomplishments. These included the successful administration of HSK and YCT proficiency tests, the organisation of several cultural events, and the continued development of the Institute’s comprehensive Chinese language curriculum. She also commended NCI teachers Shen Yinlu and Zhang Di for their success in reaching the finals of the Chinese Teaching Skills Competition, and congratulated Zhu Chencong and Shen Yinlu for receiving an Excellent Case Award at the Chinese World Conference in November.
“These achievements are a testament to our collective dedication,” Professor Chen stated. “Moving forward, the Institute remains committed to promoting Chinese language education and cultural exchange through diverse and innovative approaches.”
Following a poetry reading by a student, the celebration transitioned into lively Christmas-themed games, including Christmas Charades and Paper Strip, filling the venue with laughter and seasonal cheer.
The ceremony continued with the presentation of course completion certificates to students, acknowledging their hard work and progress. A prize draw then added to the excitement, with several students winning scholarships offering discounts on their studies with NCI in the upcoming Spring term.
The event concluded with a well-attended drinks reception, which provided a wonderful opportunity for informal conversation and celebration, with many guests staying on to socialise.

As 2025 draws to a close, we extend our sincere gratitude to all our staff for their dedication and to our students for their continued support and passion for learning Mandarin. We wish everyone a wonderful Christmas and look forward to welcoming both new and returning faces to NCI in the new year!
