The School is home to a range of peer-reviewed journals and creative writing anthologies that are produced and edited by or with our staff and students. It is our aim to produce high quality research articles and showcase a range of critical and creative writing by established and emergent scholars and writers from around the world.
The Letters Page
The Letters Page is a literary journal in letters, published by the School of English at the University of Nottingham and edited by Jon McGregor. We publish essays, stories, poetry, memoir, travelogue, and criticism; but all in the form of letters. We are interested in the literary traditions of letter-writing, and in the idea of correspondence in a digital age. We would love to hear from you.
Nottingham Medieval Studies
Nottingham Medieval Studies is one of the leading interdisciplinary journals for European history and literature from Late Antiquity through to the Reformation. The journal builds on its traditional areas of strength - the literature an history of Western Europe - with articles in related fields such a archaeology, art history, linguistics, musicology and philosophy, as well as reviews of recent publications by renowned experts in the field.
The Journal of the English Place-Name Society
The Society’s peer-reviewed Journal, issued free to members, contains the reports and accounts for the preceding year, together with articles, book reviews, bibliographies, and occasionally addenda and corrigenda to the county volumes.
Journal of Languages, Texts and Society
A postgraduate-run, online journal committed to providing an open-access platform for exploring how communication and language shape and are shaped by wider society. The journal welcomes content that engages with the following interdisciplinary research themes: literary interventions; translating cultures; performance con/texts; texts in professional and educational contexts; innovative methods to investigate language and texts.
Laced is the first-ever creative writing anthology from the School of English. This collection is a passion project, put together by a team of dedicated postgraduate students to showcase the diverse range of fantastic writing within the School.
Voices is a poetry zine published by Nottingham Poetry Exchange that showcases poetry by undergraduate students at the University of Nottingham.
Nottingham Linguistic Circular
The Nottingham Linguistic Circular was published by the School of English Studies from November 1971 until volume 14 in 1985. It was relaunched in October 2000 with volume 15 appearing in both paper and electronic form. NLC is now completely online and free to readers annually.
Working with English
Working with English was an online, peer-reviewed journal designed to promote new and original research in the field of English Studies. The journal accepted papers on all aspects of medieval and modern language, literature and drama.
