Syeda Warda Ahmed

I completed my MSc Environmental Leadership and Management in 2023. After earning my BSc in Environmental Science, I realised that many environmental issues are deeply rooted in social challenges. I wanted to gain the leadership and management skills to help drive meaningful change, and Nottingham’s holistic, practical approach to sustainability education was exactly what I needed.

The course transformed how I think and work. It wasn’t just about theory or exams. We tackled real-world problems, developed emotional intelligence and collaborated in a diverse, international cohort that I learned so much from. My time at Nottingham gave me life-long friends, practical experience and the confidence to lead.

Now, I work as a Sustainability Officer at MidKent College, where I manage decarbonisation projects, embed sustainability across the organisation, and work with partners to help us reach our Net Zero 2030 target. The values, skills, and mindset I developed during my studies continue to shape everything I do.

Choosing Nottingham was one of the best decisions I’ve made. It gave me the tools, network, and inspiration to pursue a career I’m truly passionate about.
