Salary

Your initial salary will be on a point appropriate to your grade.

Clinical Assistant Professor – Salary will be reviewed annually. However, if an employee commences in a post between 1 May and 31 July, a review will not be undertaken until August of the following year.

Clinical Researcher and Clinical Teaching Fellow - Salary will be reviewed annually and salary progression will normally take effect from the anniversary date of appointment or an alternative notified date.

A full-time contract has no defined hours or days of work. Part-time hours are based on a nominal full-time 38.5 hour week.

Hours of work:
  • Clinical Consultant

A full-time contract has no defined hours of days of work. Part-time hours are based on a nominal full-time 10 programmed activities 40 hour week.

Overtime

You will be expected to work such hours as the job demands without overtime payment or time off in lieu.

Annual leave

The annual leave year runs from 1 October to 30 September. The annual leave entitlement for a full leave year is 30 days. You will also receive eight Bank Holidays and additional University closure days as may be determined each year by the University Council.

The number of hours this equates to depends on the number of weekly hours, for example working 40 hours per week would equate to an annual leave entitlement of 240 hours and working 38.50 hours per week would equate to 231 hours per leave year.

All the above is calculated on a pro-rata basis for part-time and fractional staff.

Sickness absence and sick pay

You must notify your line manager or designated person immediately if you are unable to attend work through illness or industrial injury, and ensure this is recorded in UniCore, in accordance with the University sickness notification procedure.

Within any span of 52 weeks, payments of allowances is for the following periods according to length of continuous service:

Pension

If you are 18 years of age or over, subject to and in accordance with the rules and terms, as amended from time-to-time, you are entitled to join the recognised University occupational pension scheme, Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS), from your commencement of employment.  Full details of the USS Pension Scheme are available at: www.uss.co.uk.

You will automatically be deemed a member of the USS scheme from your commencement date.  If you do not wish to become a member, you will have the option to opt out.

If within the last 12 months, prior to taking up your post at the University, you were a member of the NHS Superannuation Scheme, then it may be possible for you to maintain your membership of that Scheme during this appointment.

Notice period and termination of service

You are required to give the University three months' notice in writing to terminate your contract. However, if you have a contractual requirement to deliver teaching you must give three months notice ending a) 31 December, 31 March, 30 June or b) 30 September if notice is given no later than 1 May.

The University must give three months’ written notice to terminate your contract.
