Richard Gaunt talks in the Houses of Parliament on Wellington

Wellington-cartoon

Richard Gaunt will be speaking in the Houses of Parliament on 14 July about the political career of the Duke of Wellington after the Battle of Waterloo.

The illustrated talk, entitled 'Wellington after Waterloo: Hero, Icon… Politician', is free but places are limited. You are asked to register your interest via Eventbrite if you wish to attend.

Dr Gaunt will reflect on the Duke’s decision to put his reputation at risk by pursuing a political career which exposed him to the sometimes unflattering attention of caricaturists and satirical artists.

The lecture is being hosted by the House of Lords Works of Art Committee as part of Parliament’s commemorations of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo. It accompanies the exhibition ‘Waterloo, Wellington and Westminster’, on show in the Royal Gallery of the House of Lords until 24 September 2015.

Dr Gaunt is also the co-curator of the exhibition ‘Charging Against Napoleon’ at Nottingham Lakeside Arts until 6 September 2015.
