Project Summary
WELHMA is a newly funded research strand of the Institute for Medieval Research at the University of Nottingham. It explores the environmental and landscape history of the medieval world and beyond through monthly online seminars, connecting researchers across history, archaeology, palaeoecology, digital humanities, and geography. WELHMA promotes interdisciplinary dialogue and public engagement, with a strong emphasis on digital accessibility and long-term visibility.
Project Aims
- Foster interdisciplinary and international collaboration on environmental and landscape history of the Middle Ages and beyond.
- Highlight current research on topics such as climate history, resource use, water systems, landscape change, and resilience
- Support knowledge exchange and research development across departments and institutions
- Build a visible and accessible online presence for long-term engagement and outreach
- Position Nottingham as a hub for environmental humanities and medieval studies
