Key responsibilities and accountabilities
The Chair of the Finance Committee is responsible for ensuring that:
- The proceedings of the Finance Committee are conducted in as open a manner as possible;
- There is an orderly succession of members of the Finance Committee is determined by Nominations Committee;
- There is a constructive and supportive but appropriately challenging working relationship with the Chief Financial Officer.
- There is smooth working between external members and executive members.
- Each committee exercises collective responsibility.
The Chair of Finance is accountable to the Chair of Council for the manner in which they discharge these responsibilities.

Knowledge and experience
- Relevant professional expertise and knowledge in financial management. Specifically, experience of financial leadership posts within organisations of significant scale and complexity;
- Previous experience of chairing complex committees is an essential requirement;
- Interested in and empathetic towards current challenges facing higher education that are relevant to the remit of the committee;
- An accounting qualification is desirable.
