Job Description

The purpose of the role is to be responsible for the design, development, implementation and delivery of the Faculty of Engineering’s undergraduate and postgraduate taught student recruitment strategy.  You will work in collaboration with colleagues across the Faculty and within professional service teams to support ambitious plans for growth in key areas through the development of strategic relationships and sustainable recruitment pipelines. As a member of the Faculty Executive Board you will work closely with colleagues, within a matrix environment, to deliver on agreed student recruitment targets in support of the Faculty’s business plan.

Main Responsibilities

Strategic Development

  • Member of the Faculty Executive Board which considers, develops and aligns Faculty strategy with the overall strategy of the University.
  • To design, develop and implement a recruitment strategy for undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes for all disciplines within Engineering.
  • To actively promote and act as an ambassador for the University/Faculty, adopting a professional and strategic approach to student recruitment.
  • To identify and develop markets, recruitment pipelines (e.g. teaching partnerships) and strategic relationships in support of the Faculty’s student recruitment targets and strategic plans (n.b. this will involve significant international travel).
  • To support the development of the Faculty business plan based on market insight and opportunity.
  • To contribute at a strategic level to the continuing development of the Faculty and wider university through participation at relevant groups, committees and forums to shape global engagement and recruitment policy.

Leadership and Management

  • To lead and manage the Faculty’s student recruitment activity to ensure delivery of high-quality students to annually agreed targets.
  • To provide direction, leadership, support and guidance to colleagues involved in student recruitment activity within the Faculty.
  • To work closely with Heads of Department, Admissions Tutors and Education and Student Experience (ESE) Directors to develop leads and implement student recruitment strategy, manage recruitment activities and monitor recruitment performance.
  • To work closely with colleagues from External Relations responsible for student recruitment regarding university activity, policy, process, procedures and reporting.

Project Management

  • Significant project management responsibilities in relation to development of recruitment activities, including management of Flexible Investment Fund projects.
  • Providing strategic planning reports and recommendations on the future development of the service with a planning timescale of months and years.

Financial Management

  • Responsible for delivering circa £85m income to the Faculty annually. 
  • Responsible for managing the operational recruitment and recruitment travel budget of around £60k pa.
  • To assess and report for planning purposes on the future budgetary requirements of the service.

Other Academic Duties

  • To contribute to the teaching of undergraduate students as directed by the APVC Education and Student Experience.
  • To contribute to industrial advisory and graduate outcomes activity.
  • To provide a consistently excellent standard of teaching and support for student learning that is underpinned by scholarship related to the discipline.

Service Enhancement

  • To keep abreast of current and emerging developments in recruitment, in both the education sector and in business that may be used to enhance the service and efficiency.
  • Management of critical and urgent issues that may have significant impact on recruitment activities.
