In this seminar, Dr Jai Mackenzie (University of Birmingham) will present a study of digital interactions from an online discussion forum for parents, Mumsnet Talk. Taking a qualitative, emergent approach that is grounded in feminist poststructuralist theory, Jai will consider whether communicating within this online discussion forum makes any contribution to the options mothers are able to navigate, and in particular, their ability to negotiate and resist dominant discourses of gendered parenthood.

Dr Jai Mackenzie is a Teaching Fellow in the English Language Department at the University of Birmingham. She teaches a range of courses related to her research interests in language, gender and sexuality, research methods and discourse analysis.
