The University of Nottingham is delighted to offer five British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM for female students from Mexico. These awards are supported by the British Council and aim to increase opportunities for women who are passionate about science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The scholarship will cover tuition fees, stipend, travel costs, visa and health coverage fees.

About the British Council

The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. We build connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and other countries through arts and culture, education and the English language. Last year, we reached over 80 million people directly and 791 million people overall including online, and through broadcasts and publications. Founded in 1934, we are a UK charity governed by Royal Charter and a UK public body. We receive a 15% core funding grant from the UK government.

Eligible countries

  • Mexico

 To apply for this scholarship, you must:

  • be a woman.
  • be a passport holder and permanent resident of Mexico.
  • hold an academic offer for your course - please note you must have submitted an application to study on one of the specified eligible courses no later than Tuesday 14 March 2023.
  • have completed all components of an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate programme at a UK university partner by the time you submit your application and be due to start your postgraduate programme in the UK during 2023.
  • have not previously studied at degree level or higher in the UK or lived recently in the UK.
  • meet the English language requirement of the UK university partner by the deadline of 2 June 2023.
  • demonstrate a case for financial support or socio-economic need.
  • return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your scholarship award has ended.

You are not eligible for a British Council Scholarship for Women in STEM if you:

  • Hold dual British citizenship
  • Are an employee, a former employee, or relative of an employee of Her Majesty’s Government (including British Embassies/High Commissions; the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy; Department for International Trade; the Ministry of Defence; and the Home Office)
  • Are an employee, a former employee, or relative of an employee of the British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM – eligible countries
  • Are currently in receipt of financial support or funding towards your study programme in the UK from any other source
  • Have previously studied in the UK with funding from a UK Government-funded scholarship or a UK institutional scholarship/financial bursary.

Other criteria

You are also required to show in your application form that:

  • you are active in the field with work experience or with a proven interest in the programme area you are applying for
  • you are motivated and academically able to follow and benefit from a UK postgraduate taught course
  • you are able to evidence how the knowledge/skills acquired in studying a UK degree will help you to contribute to the development and socio-economic advancement of your home country
  • you can demonstrate a plan and passion to engage other women and girls in STEM from your home country
  • you agree that your personal data being shared with the British Council as a condition of applying for the bursary

If you are awarded a scholarship, you agree to maintain contact with the British Council and act as an ambassador for the UK and engage with activities as part of a British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM alumnus during and after your study in the UK. Any involvement in these activities during your study in the UK will take up no more than five hours per term.

We would strongly recommend that you apply for your chosen course (of those listed above) as soon as possible, to ensure eligible students are made offers. You will require an academic offer to study at the university, before you can apply for the scholarship.

When you have received your offer to study with us, you will be able to apply through the scholarships section of our application system, NottinghamHub.
