Professor Fiona Bath-Hextall
Emeirtus Professor of Evidence Based Healthcare
University of Nottingham

For the last 20 years her main research area has been risk factors, treatment and prevention of keratinocyte carcinoma, the most common cancer in humans. Her systematic reviews have informed guidelines and policy, and have identified and informed the design of primary research, including randomised controlled trials, case control studies, cohort studies and mixed methods studies. She has published more than 135 papers. Fiona became involved in systematic reviewing in 1995 working with the Cochrane Stroke Group and later with the Cochrane Skin Group, and has authored more than 30 systematic reviews.

In 2012 Fiona took over the directorship of the Nottingham Centre of Evidence Based Nursing and Midwifery (NCEBNM) an affiliate Centre of the JBI. In 2013 Fiona renamed the centre and established the Centre for Evidence Based HealthCare (CEBHC). The Centre became involved in training clinical partners in evidence based practice, working alongside practice to ensure that the systematic reviews undertaken were answering important clinical questions. Fiona was instrumental in establishing a free access for all NUH staff to all EBHC tools and the JBI library. In 2013 the CEBHC was established as one of the five health sciences research groups. Fiona remained director of the CEBHC until her retirement the end of 2017. Fiona taught evidence based practice and systematic reviewing to undergraduate, postgraduate, post- registration students and clinicians. She has been a trainer for the JBI accredited systematic reviewing courses since 2004. She was a member of the JBI editorial board, represented the JBI European Group on the JBI Scientific Committee and was a member of the JBI Mixed Methods Group.
