Andrew Armstrong joined Council in November 2024 as an elected Senate member representing Professional Services staff.

Born and bred in Nottingham, he attended the University of Loughborough successfully studying an Undergraduate degree in Computer Science.

He has worked at the University of Nottingham for over a decade, joining Digital and Technology Services (DTS) in 2009 in the Computer Suite Support Group supporting students and computer rooms, before moving into IT Operations in 2014 as an Operational Support Engineer supporting Linux servers.

In 2015 he then moved to Virtualisation Systems Engineer running the Universities Virtualisation platform VMware, finally regrading to Senior Virtualisation Systems Engineer in 2024 also overseeing DNS and DHCP technologies. During this time the implementation of several large scale IT projects have helped keep the University running effectively.

Since his work helps underpin the core services of the University IT estate, it necessitates a broad knowledge and interaction with a large cross section of the University from different processional services and academic departments. This knowledge helps bring a perspective on the interactions of different parts of the University and how they operate, alongside how large scale IT projects and services are provided in the University.
