Being an apprentice at the University of Nottingham provides you access to a world of resources and opportunities.  Whether you want to join a sports group, pick up a new hobby, or just want a bit of support with day-to-day university life, you'll find what you need on the pages below.

 

Your apprenticeship experience

Students' Union

The Students' Union is at the heart of student life at the University of Nottingham. Here you'll find events, clubs and societies, volunteering opportunities and advice about every aspect of your studies.

If you're going to be visiting Sutton Bonington, familiarise yourself with the Sutton Bonington Guild.

 

 

Clubs and societies

We have hundreds of societies and clubs you can get involved in. Meet new people with shared hobbies and interests or take the opportunity to learn a completey new skill – such as bellringing, film-making or how to build the perfect lego palace.

 

 

Sport

We have over 70 sports and clubs to help you get active on campus – from football to archery; netball to canoe polo. Or, if you're just looking to get fit, take part in weekly classes such as yoga, body pump, indoor cycling and HIIT.

Our David Ross Sports Village offers a gym, pool and a climbing wall, as well as an on-site sauna and steam room to help you relax and unwind. With inclusive sports facilities at all of our campuses there really is something for everyone.

 

 

Music opportunities

Whether you are a seasoned performer or a musical novice, there are many opportunities to make and enjoy music on campus. You can join orchestras, choirs, smaller ensembles or chamber groups, or one of the Students’ Union’s musical societies.

 

 

Language learning opportunities

Find out more about learning a new language or improving existing skills alongside students from across the university with The Language Centre. There are nine languages to choose from, with levels varying from beginners to advanced.

 

 

Volunteering

There are plenty of volunteering options available, from one-off opportunities to ongoing projects.

 

 

Sustainability

The university is taking a stand against climate change and setting ambitious carbon reduction targets. Every one of us has a part to play and every one of us can make a difference.

Functional skills

Your programme team will contact you if the completion of functional skills is part of your offer. Please note, you will not be contacted until 6 months after the start of your programme.

 

Standards of behaviour

Our university is a place where everyone can feel comfortable being themselves. We value the diversity of our community and have clear policies around dignity, respect and discriminatory harassment. Take a moment to familiarise yourself with these and to understand our values, how you can report an issue, and what we will do to support you.

 
 
Teaching and studying

Student services

Student Services can offer you support with your programme, as well as signposting to specialist services, including health and welfare, and more.

 

 

Digital Technology Services

From Wi-Fi access to storage solutions to digital security and printing on campus, Digital Technology Services are here to help you with all of your digital needs. Our online Smart Bar will be able to help you with any troubleshooting questions you may have.

We also provide are lots of online and digital tools available to you to assist with your learning, including Office 365 and Microsoft Teams to name a few. Find out what tools are available to you and learn a bit about how you can use them.

 

 

Library services

University of Nottingham Libraries are here to support you throughout your studies and research, including:
a wide range of bookable and drop-in study spaces across our eight libraries extensive print and online library collections guides and workshops to help you develop your academic and information skillshelp and support from our friendly library staff in-person or online.

 

 

Nottingham Advantage Award

This is the university's free employability scheme, designed to give you recognition for activities you undertake outside of your degree. These extracurricular modules will help you develop skills and reflect on your experiences to showcase them in your future careers.

Health and wellbeing support

Health and wellbeing support

Our HealthyU programme pulls together resources and support for every aspect of your health and wellbeing at university. Find out about everything from healthy eating to mental health; sex and relationships to stress management.

 

 

Keeping fit at home

As well as our fantastic on-campus facilities, UoN Sport also offer free virtual fitness sessions and workouts to help you keep active from the comfort of your accommodation.

 

 

Counselling service

We offer individual counselling consultations for all students throughout the year, as well as services to help you keep on top of your mental health - including groups, workshops and self-help resources.

 

 

Faith support

Our Chaplaincy and Faith Support service offers support to students of any faith and none. They help you practice your faith and engage with faith communities, as well as providing a listening ear for anyone who needs it.

 

 

Disability support services

Our disability support services help create an inclusive and equitable teaching and learning environment for all students. Let us know if you have a disability, mental health difficulty, long-term medical condition, autistic spectrum disorder, or a specific learning difference. 

 

 

Support and wellbeing officers

Our team of support and wellbeing officers work alongside your personal tutor or supervisor and other university services. They encourage a healthy approach to your studies and provide practical advice relating to university policies and your studies.

 

 

Consent in relationships

The University of Nottingham is working with the Students' Union to raise awareness about sexual consent amongst our students and staff.
