I lecture on 'Studying Modern Literature' and convene 'Academic Community' and 'Regional Writers' at level one.

PG Modules Taught - I convene 'What is Literary Research?' and a Distance Learning module on D. H. Lawrence and Modernism. I contribute to the modules 'What is a Text?' and 'Modernism: Inside and Outside' (which I convened in the 2010-11 academic year).

Areas of Research Supervision - I am very interested in hearing from students who wish to pursue PhD research on D. H. Lawrence, or in the area of literary modernism.

Current Research Student - I am supervising Jason Ward, who is writing a PhD thesis on short film adaptations of Lawrence's short stories.

Current Research

My main area of expertise is in modernism, with specific reference to the works of D. H. Lawrence. I have published a monograph on D. H. Lawrence and Italian Futurism (2003), co-edited a casebook of modern critical essays on Sons and Lovers (2005), and I am currently under contract to write the Critical Biographies volume on Lawrence for Blackwell. I am Director of the D. H. Lawrence Research Centre, founding editor of the Journal of D. H. Lawrence Studies, and I am on the editorial board of Katherine Mansfield Studies.
