Farewell to CLAS colleagues

We are sorry to be saying goodbye to the following colleagues this year:

  • David Denton is retiring from Russian and Slavonic Studies after a decade or so teaching Russian and Slavonic Languages. We are very sorry to be losing David, a really committed language teacher, and wish him all the very best for his retirement.
  • Farewell too to Dr James Helgeson, who is leaving us after ten years in French Studies at Nottingham. James is heading off to pursue an impressive second string in music composition with a funded PhD studentship – indeed, he already has his public profile as a postgraduate research student in Royal Holloway College’s Department of Music. We wish James all the very best for the future.
  • Ann Claeys, who has been teaching Dutch very successfully for several years, is also leaving us to return to Belgium with her family. With her we also lose our Swedish teacher and our master baker, this last a serious loss too. All the best for the future, Ann!
  • And we also say a reluctant farewell to Maja Rancigaj, Slovene lector, whose contract is not continuing. We have a long and proud record of offering Slovene in the School, so this is a very sad moment, but we hope to maintain our good links with Slovenia.
