New online course for current students and staff of the University of Nottingham, China and Malaysia

Are you interested in the language and culture of the Spanish-speaking world? There is still time for current students to join the open online course.

Spanish is the second most widely spoken language in the world. How so? What are the origins of the spread of Spanish—or, more precisely, of Castilian Spanish, i.e. the language of the Kingdom of Castile?

Who were the conquistadors? What part did the slave trade play in Spanish colonialism? What is the role of Spanish language, and of 'Latino' culture, in the USA today?

But also... How do Spanish verbs work? What are the thousand most popular words in the Spanish language? And how do I translate them?

Using original material designed for the purpose, specialists from the Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies at the University of Nottingham will help you learn Spanish and guide you through the waters of the Hispanic Atlantic with a new online course available for current students.
