Becoming an outstanding teacher: making a successful start to your teaching career in the East Midlands

Part of the School of Education's Continuing Professional Development programme - a one-day conference for NQTs and early career teachers

The day will provide unique opportunities for newly qualified and early career teachers to hear local and national speakers; to reflect on their own practice; learn from others; and develop a plan for successful teaching career in the East Midlands.

Keynote speaker: Professor Dame Alison Peacock
Dame Alison will talk about 'Learning without Limits', an inclusive approach to teaching that seeks to find a way through for every child. As Chief Executive of the Chartered College of Teaching, Alison now leads our professional body. She will discuss ways that we can raise the status of teaching through an evidence-informed approach that restores trust and agency.

What you will learn

Strategies for building a successful professional career and achieving work life balance.

A choice of workshops focussed on resilience for you and your students; strategies for working with diverse students; and creating calm classrooms through Positive Behaviour Support.

Core content

The full programme is still being finalised but will include key local speakers and University of Nottingham School of Education experts presenting a range of lectures and workshops. The focus will be on managing your own development, responsibility and leadership in schools in the East Midlands.
