Technological devices, particularly tablets and smartphones, play a significant role in the daily lives of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). This seminar is based on the presenter’s teaching practice with children with SEND and the knowledge he gained during his doctoral research. The presenter will share some of his doctoral research findings on how parents use mobile devices with their children with SEND at home and provide some examples of technology use with students with SEND in the classroom. The seminar aims to explore the use of touch-screen devices with children with SEND at homes and schools and discuss possible educational advantages of these devices for these children.

Yunus is a member of the special and inclusive education staff team for the MA course undertaking dissertation supervisor role and is a PhD candidate at the School of Education, University of Nottingham. His doctoral research focuses on mobile device use by young children with SEND in their homes. He successfully completed his MSc in Education (Special and Inclusive Education) at the University of Bristol in 2018. He was a Special Educational Needs (SEN) teacher with four years of working experience in Turkey. He also worked as a Teaching Assistant (TA) in various special needs schools in Nottingham. He is passionate about technology use in the education of children with special educational needs.
