MA Education student wins Vice Chancellor's Medal

Congratulations to Jayatilake Kankanamalage Janith Prabashwara Perera (Janith) on the award of a 2022 Vice Chancellor's Medal.

The medal is awarded for exceptional achievement by staff or students across the university's campuses in China, Malaysia, or the UK.

Criteria for the Award of the Medal

  • Exceptional achievement in a particular arena
  • Outstanding contribution to advancing equality, diversity and inclusion in university life
  • Notable endeavour which has made a difference to the university
  • A substantive contribution which has enhanced the reputation of the University of Nottingham
  • Activity which has had a noticeably positive impact for students, staff or the local community
  • An individual achievement or sustained achievement over a period of time

Only a small number of Vice-Chancellor’s Medals will be presented in any year, making this a very special award for University of Nottingham staff and students. Those selected by the panel are presented with a specially created medal and certificate at an appropriate university event during the academic year.

About Janith

Janith is an MA Education student from Sri Lanka who will be graduating this year. He was nominated for this award by the School of Education for his work and achievements in the field of peace building.

After graduation, Janith plans to publish his research work which is centred on peace education and to advocate for the promotion of peace education in Sri Lanka, as well as in other countries around the world. He is also thinking of starting a PhD.

Janith says: "The  MA Education has helped me develop a comprehensive understanding on peace education, as well as how I can utilise education as an instrument for making change on a social level. I believe the degree will provide more leverage for my advocacy aims."
