Registration

Registration fee

The registration fee for the Summer School 2024 will be £150. This includes the following:

  • Access to all Summer School activities, including optional activities parallel to the core academic programme (e.g. the practical presentation skills workshop)
  • Access to University of Nottingham wifi and working spaces (in case you want to find somewhere quiet to concentrate throughout the week)
  • Tea/coffee and biscuits during morning and afternoon breaks
  • Lunch every day (Monday - Thursday)
  • A celebratory dinner on Wednesday night (the penultimate night of the Summer School), and an informal supper together on Monday evening at the end of the first day.

To book, please register via the online shop. You can also specify and pay for on campus B&B accommodation at £40 per night (£200 for Sunday -Thursday) and an excursion. Registration and accomodation bookings are open until Saturday 25 May, but will close sooner if all places on the Summer School are filled. Please do not delay registering if you are applying for a bursary, as reimbursements can be made in the case of a successful award.

Bursaries

The School of English hopes to be able to offer a small number of bursaries of £75 to help cover the costs of the registration fee. The deadline to apply for a bursary is 5pm, Friday 25 May. Please see the application form for further information about eligibility and how to apply.

Eligibility

This Doctoral Summer School is designed to support current PhD students as they progress through their degrees. To be eligible to attend, you must be currently enrolled on a doctoral programme (in any year of registered study or in thesis pending/‘writing up’), and exploring a research topic related to language learning and teaching. If you have any questions about eligibility, please contact English-LLT@nottingham.ac.uk

Additional information

As part of the registration process, after you have registered for the Summer School we will send you a short form with a few questions about yourself so that we can get to know you. In case you’d like to give these questions some thought in advance, these are the prompts we’ll ask you to respond to:

  • It would be great to start to get to know you a little before you arrive – please feel free to share something about yourself and your PhD journey so far!
  • What do you most hope to gain from attending this Doctoral Summer School?
  • There will be opportunities to raise topics for discussion in person too, but if there are specific topics/issues you would like us to try to touch on throughout the week, you can note them here.
  • Finally, it would also be useful to know a little about your research training and experience to date. What data collection/analysis have you worked with? Where do you feel you still need/would like to develop your research expertise?

A questionnaire will be sent out once you have registered.

Accessibility

If you have any accessibility or other requirements you would like us to be aware of, please include this on the registration form. If you have any questions, please email English-LLT@nottingham.ac.uk.
