Internships

The Creative Student Network provides a number of competitive internships at leading industry organisations. An internship is an opportunity to work in a professional environment, to gain experience and an insight into media, film and TV industries.

The internships are designed to help you determine your interest in the film and media industry, create a network of contacts and boost your employability instantly. They include some of the most prestigious internships currently available in the UK and a number based in Los Angeles.

Available internships can vary from year to year, but in the past we’ve sent students to the following high profile companies:

I applied for the Hollywood internship because it was a chance of a lifetime, but also because I wanted to improve my chances of employment and push myself more as a person. My main highlight of the internship was the opportunity to learn about how a major studio actually works. The staff at Fox are eager to help you make the most of your time there, and there are a lot of events that allow you to learn about departments outside your own. I interned in the Audience Research department, and my favourite part about that was attending the audience testing for their new shows.

The Hollywood internship really was a dream come true. Working on the Fox lot with so much film and television history around you is a magical experience. I made some incredible connections and strong friendships whilst interning there, and the best advice I can give is to be confident and push yourself to ask questions and meet people because you really do get back what you put in. This internship improved my communication skills, made me more confident and let me experience what it is like to work in a fast-paced entertainment environment. It definitely further fuelled my desire to work in the entertainment industry in the future. In fact, I really hope I end up working for Fox again one day.

Fox Studios

Fox Studios, founded in 1935, is one of the six major US film studios. Our interns there experience Hollywood first-hand, in the heart of Los Angeles. The Twentieth-Century Fox studio is the creator of some of the quintessential Hollywood blockbusters, such as the original Star Wars trilogy, Avatar, Alien, X-Men and Die Hard.  Fox’s television division includes a range of television channels, producing programmes including Empire, Modern Family, The Simpsons, Family Guy, The X-Files and hundreds more across its history.

Red Bee Creative

Red Bee Creative is a creative agency based in London. Their work involves production promotional content as well as branding and audience engagement strategy. They have worked with major broadcasters including the BBC, ITV, FOX, Discovery International and Dave, as well as with key consumer brands such as Hyundai and Halfords.

Following the time I spent interning at Fox Searchlight (thanks to the University of Nottingham), I was accepted at Drama Centre London/Central Saint Martins where I enrolled in a Screen Directing Masters. This then led me to direct Wasp, the debut feature I filmed upon completing my studies, and which is now finding distribution deals and festival representations around the world. Currently based in London, I am developing my second feature while writing/directing smaller projects on the side.

The Art Directors Guild

Our interns at the ADG work inthe guild's large archive of production materials and help organise training events, screenings and other activities.

Canopy Insight

Canopy Insight is a cultural insight and innovation consultancy run by one of our Film and Television Studies graduates. They work with brands and organisations to develop their branding and communication strategies.

Since leaving the University of Nottingham I've been working towards a career in cultural research and insight. I took part in CSN's Canopy semiotics internship over the summer of my final year. To my delight I have recently been offered a role to become a Graduate Analyst for Canopy. I am very excited to be progressing in cultural research and working with Canopy which couldn't have been possible without all the help from CSN!
