Part of the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, we offer research degree supervision in all areas of Translation Studies, including historical linguistics and translation studies from the 18th century to the present. Particular research strengths include audio-visual translation, translation theory, translation of literary and philosophical texts, translation between Asian (esp. Chinese) and Western contexts, post-colonial translation and intercultural competences. We can offer expert supervision for projects involving English and the following languages: French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Serbian, Croatian, Slovene, Dutch.
At undergraduate level we offer a BA in Modern Languages with Translation, and at postgraduate level we run a taught MA in Translation Studies. All of our courses are available on a full-time or part-time basis, and use our state-of-the-art interpreting facilities which have been built to the same specifications as those used by the UN in Geneva.
