To celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Ox, Nottingham Confucius Institute is pleased to support a joint "CNY Language Partner Challenge" event organised by two UoN student societies: CSSA (Chinese Scholars and Students Association) and Contemporary China.
The organisers aim to find 15 native English speakers and 15 native Chinese speakers to take part in the challenge, which will run for two weeks starting from Chinese New Year's Day (Friday 12 Feb). All participants will be paired up with a native language speaker on the first day, where they will then arrange to meet up on WeChat or What's App to learn about each other's language and culture in their own time across the two-week period. To test how much they have learnt from their language buddy, all participants will be invited to compete via Kahoot games on Saturday 27 Feb at 12:00-13:00. Each pair will need to work as a team and help each other during the two-week preparation period as their game scores will be added together! Guidelines on general topics that may appear in the Kahoot games will be provided. Native English speakers without prior knowledge of Chinese language are welcome to join: the Chinese language element in the Kahoot game will be at a level that gives newcomers a chance.
There will be prizes for all participants in the form of Amazon vouchers:Top five pairs of winners1st place - £50 each 2nd place - £40 each 3rd place - £30 each Runner ups 4th and 5th places - £20 each All other participants - £10 each
