The Nottingham Confucius Institute (NCI) is proud to be one of the official HSK test centres in the UK authorised by Chinese Test International and The Chinese Language Council International (also known as Hanban).
NCI can administer written tests (HSK level 1~level 6) and oral tests (HSKK).
Those who achieve high marks in HSK tests may be eligible to apply for scholarships offered by Hanban to study in China. For details on the scholarship application procedure please visit our website.
HSK tests at NCI are usually held in March, May and December. The three test dates for 2020 are 21 March and 9 May (both were unfortunately cancelled due to Covid-19) and 6 December, which is anticipated to take place, subject to confirmation. Registration for each exam is usually required at least one month prior to the test date.
Lastest update - The Online Chinese Test (Home Edition) has been made available to HSK 1- 6 candiates as a tempoary measure during the lockdown. The most recent availlable test date was 28 June 2020. Click here for details.
There will be no Online Chinese Test over the summer here with NCI. If more online tests are made available between September and November, we will announce the dates here as soon as they are confirmed.
How to register
Step one - visit the University online store to pay the registration fee required by Hanban.
Step two - register for the exam online. During the process, a step called “pay online” will appear: please ignore it as this is designed only for those who take exams in China. View the Registration Guidance here.
Please note that you are required to upload an ID photo (with white background, no hats- please refer to registration guidance for details) during this stage of the online registration. Should you experience difficulty in doing so, please email email@example.com
Step three - email the following documents to firstname.lastname@example.org before the deadline with ‘HSK exam registration - your name’ in the subject line (e.g. ‘HSK exam registration - John Smith’)
- A scanned copy of the same personal ID you used when registering for the exam in step two (ID card, driving licence or passport)
- The automatic confirmation email you received from the University online store after completing step one
You will be given an HSK permit and full instructions after your application has been processed. You will need to bring the HSK permit along with personal ID (ID card, driving licence or passport) to the test centre on the day of the exam. Failure to bring either of these will prevent you being able to enter the test venue. You will only need pencils and an eraser for the test. You are not allowed to bring dictionaries or other written materials with you.
You will be able to check the test results approximately one month after the test date on www.chinesetest.cn. You will be notified by email as soon as the test certificates arrive at NCI. Collection can then be arranged from the NCI Library (A23, Si Yuan Centre, Jubilee Campus).
The next registration deadline: midnight on 3rd November 2020
Polite notice: due to the current situation with COVID-19, we are not certain if the exams scheduled for 6 December will go ahead. However, if it turns out that the the exams have to be postponed, you will certinaly get a full refund of your exam fees.
