The Nottingham Confucius Institute (NCI) is proud to be one of the official HSK test centres in the UK authorised by Chinese Test International and the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC).
NCI can administer written tests (HSK level 1~level 6) and oral tests (HSKK).
Those who achieve high marks in HSK tests may be eligible to apply for scholarships offered by CLEC to study in China. For details on the scholarship application procedure please visit our website.
Test dates
HSK tests at NCI are usually held in March, May and December. Registration for each exam is required at least one month prior to the test date.
Lastest update - We will be holding our last Online Chinese Test (Home Edition) on Saturday 20 May 2023. The registration is open now.
Please note that you must reside in the UK at the time of the exam and that you should read important information carefully regarding equipment requirements and HSK certificate availability etc before registering for an online Chinese Test (Home Edition). Failure to do so may result in you failing to undertake the test or an invalid test result.
How to register
Step one - visit the University online store to pay the registration fee required by Chinese Testing International.
Step two - register for the exam online. During the process, a step called “pay online” will appear: please ignore it as this is designed only for those who take exams in China. View the Registration Guidance here.
Please note that you need to select "online Chinese Test (Home Edition)" instead of "internet-based" as test format and "The University of Nottingham Confucius Institute" as your test centre.
Please also note that you are required to upload an ID photo (with white background, no hats- please refer to registration guidance for details) during this stage of the online registration. Should you experience difficulty in doing so, please email lufei.zheng@nottingham.ac.uk
Step three - email the following documents to lufei.zheng@nottingham.ac.uk before the deadline with ‘HSK exam registration - your name’ in the subject line (e.g. ‘HSK exam registration - John Smith’)
- A scanned copy of the same personal ID you used when registering for the exam in step two (ID card, driving licence or passport)
- The automatic confirmation email you received from the University online store after completing step one
View our privacy notice to find out how we process your personal data.
You will be given an HSK permit and full instructions after your application has been processed. You will need to show the HSK permit and a form of personal ID (e.g. ID card, driving licence or passport) to the invigilators via your web camera on the day of the exam. Failure to present either of these will prevent you being able to take the test. You are not allowed to use dictionaries or have other written materials on your desk or anywhere else within your reach.
You will be able to check your HSK test results in ten working days and HSKK results in 25 working days after the test date on www.chinesetest.cn. You will also be able to download your test certificate online.
The next registration deadline: midnight, 4 May 2023
We plan to offer a number of Free Online HSK Exam Prep Courses to our exam candidates from late April. Details will be published here soon.
