Education and Student Experience Team

Who we are and what we do

Welcome! We’re the ESE (Education and Student Experience) team, and we’re here to support everyone in the School of English—both students and staff. Our goal is to help you get the most out of your time at university, not just academically but through all the extra opportunities available to you.

You’ll hear from us regularly via email and social media with updates about your course, upcoming events, and ways to get involved—whether that’s through peer mentoring, becoming a course rep, or something new that pops up!

We also make sure your voice is heard. We work with the Students’ Union to recruit and train course reps, and we run Student Staff Forums—regular meetings where students and staff come together to share feedback and make positive changes.

Look out for our weekly email updates. These are released on Tuesdays at noon in term time, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or ideas. We’re here to help!

Past Events

Chinese New Year

The School of English is proud to be a diverse, welcoming community that celebrates cultures from all around the world. One of the highlights of our year is our Chinese New Year celebration—a vibrant, fun event open to everyone in the School.

There’s food, music, performances, and a great atmosphere. It’s a fantastic way to connect with others, learn something new, and be part of our inclusive community.

Come along, get involved—we’d love to see you there!

Communi-Tea Café

Looking for a friendly space to relax, meet new people, and take a break from your studies? Come along to our Communi-Tea Cafés—free, informal events held regularly during term time in the Student Common Room.

Grab a hot drink and a biscuit (or two!), have a chat with fellow students, and enjoy being part of our School of English community. Everyone’s welcome—just drop in and say hello!

University Mental Health Day

University Mental Health Day is a yearly event that highlights the importance of taking care of your mental wellbeing. Across campus, there are activities and events to help you reflect, recharge, and access support if you need it.

In the School of English, we host a drop-in event in the Student Common Room where you can take a moment to unwind—whether that’s through some mindful crafting, picking up useful wellbeing resources, or simply having a chat. Staff from the Wellbeing Team are also on hand if you’d like to talk or ask questions.

Everyone’s welcome—come along, take a breather, and look after your mental health.
