Postgraduate seminars

PG-Seminar

The Postgraduate Seminar Series is run by and for postgraduates in the School of English every two weeks during term time.

Seminar aims

The Postgraduate Seminar Series is designed to facilitate informal discussion in a supportive and friendly environment. It:

  • provides students with training in specific research skills relevant to English as a subject
  • allows for discussion of current research being conducted in the school
  • builds a postgraduate community, offering a regular point of social contact with peers throughout your studies

The Seminar Series is also a primary source of information - both from experienced postgraduate colleagues, and from members of staff - about events, opportunities, developments within the school and administrative matters relevant to you.

For more information, please email Dr Joel Evans.

Participants

All members of staff and postgradute students in the school are welcome to attend. Staff will often be part of the panels and roundtable discussions.

The skills and training seminars are open only to students from the School of English, but all other seminars are open to postgraduate students from other schools.

Seminar content

The format of the seminar varies widely through the year, offering a mixture of discussion fora, postgraduate presentations and skills workshops, including:

  • practice conference papers and posters
  • presentation of work-in-progress
  • Skills training
  • Q&A sessions
  • Career and networking surgeries
  • Social activities
