December 2025 - Important update
Please note that the 2025/26 academic promotions and senior banding cycle has been paused in light of the decision at Council on 25 November to open up engagement on changes to university structure, courses and research detailed in the FN2 Strategic Case for Change.This pause will enable a two-month consultation process which starts on Monday 15 December 2025, on the proposal that the cycle should not be held at all this academic year.

What you need to know
We promote our employees based on three areas of achievement:
- Research and scholarship
- Teaching and curriculum leadership activity
- University and academic service, good citizenship and demonstration of the University values
Our promotion process applies to all our Research and Teaching (R&T) staff, including seconded staff in UNMC and UNNC. You can apply for promotion to R&T Level 4, Level 5, Level 6 and Level 7.
