Philosophy spring seminar series poster

Join us for our spring research seminars of 2022. The speaker this week is Mat Simpson, University of Cambridge

All are welcome. The seminars will take place Wednesdays at 3pm-5pm in Humanities A02.

The abstract for Mat's talk is:

Contemporary metaethical expressivists, who think that moral thoughts are attitudes that get expressed by moral sentences, want to achieve a radical and total evasion of moral metaphysics – the study of the nature of moral truths, facts, and properties. In this paper I show how they can do this, but argue that if they do, they are unable to achieve one of their central ambitions: to vindicate ordinary moral practice, and protect it in some way from the claim that moral practice is all in error.

Any graduate students or staff are welcome to join for post-seminar dinner. If you want to join, please let me know by Monday 21st at the latest.

To sign up for our mailing list, please email the seminar convenor, Craig French: craig.french@nottingham.ac.uk
