Congratulations to third year philosophy student Daniel Miller

Congratulations to third year Philosophy student Daniel Miller who has been invited to compete in the 2014 China-Bridge competition organised by Hanban UK. Daniel has been chosen as a very strong candidate on behalf of Nottingham Confucius Institute, to participate in the semi-finals on Saturday 22 March at the British Library in London. Competition levels are already proving to be high as a number of non-native speakers in the UK have demonstrated an excellent standard of mandarin.

The top three competitors will be invited to the headquarters of the Confucius Institute in Beijing to attend the final worldwide competition. Daniel has been selected based on his high level mandarin skills and knowledge, and has the full support of the University’s mandarin teachers who recognise his great potential to then be invited to the final round in Beijing.

The semi-final and the final of the competition consist of the following sections:

  • Speech with self-selected topics: school, etc.
  • Quizzes on Chinese language & culture.
  • Chinese Culture Performance.

As preparation Daniel is required to submit adequate preparation for the competition by supplying a complete transcript of his speech in Mandarin; the name and content of his Chinese culture performance; and accompanying background music for this. Good luck to Daniel in the semi-finals!
