Career prospects - Careers & Employability Service praise new philosophy module

A new module available to third year single and joint honours philosophy students has been recognised by the University Careers and Employability Service. The Communicating Philosophy module helps to apply philosophical practice to a range of professional sectors. Paul Charman, Deputy Director, Careers and Employability Service writes:

"The Communicating Philosophy module is an innovative way in which students, through core subject knowledge, develop and practise communication skills in a range of settings. Additionally the module enables students to gain valuable insights through visiting professionals and understand how their studies relate to the workplace. This approach has obvious benefits in developing essential skills for work but allows exposure to different career options which is a great opportunity from which students can begin to develop their plans for future work or study. As a model, the module has huge potential for other subject areas, allowing links to be drawn between subjects and the career opportunities available. Perhaps most usefully, it helps students of non-vocational courses with vast career options available to them gain insight whilst developing skills that will be essential whatever direction they take."
