Volunteering opportunities - successful year for philosophy in schools project

It’s the most successful year yet for our Philosophers in Schools programme, the scheme that supports second and third year students teaching philosophy to 9-11 year olds. This year we have 28 volunteers helping in five different schools across the city. The scheme which is led by the department Careers Officer, Andy Fisher was set up to allow children to argue and think for themselves, allowing them to share ideas with others.

“This is such an amazing opportunity for the student’s personal development and to enhance their employability; but also such a great chance for children to learn about philosophy, learn about themselves and the world around them - a big thanks from the Department of Philosophy to all the students giving up their time for a worthwhile activity”. Andy Fisher
