Dr Lydia Farina joins the Department of Philosophy
We're pleased to announce that Dr Lydia Farina will be joining us as a Teaching Associate in the Department of Philosophy from September.
Dr Lydia Farina has kindly provided a brief introduction to their current research and teaching experience:
"I am excited to be joining a thriving philosophy department with expertise in several areas matching my research interests such as metaphysics, social ontology, the philosophy of mind and free will. My research is primarily in the metaphysics of mind, social ontology and the philosophy of emotion. I am interested in the interplay between metaphysical questions on the ontology of mental states/ categories and practical application questions in experimental psychology and artificial intelligence. I am also interested in the philosophy of emotion and more specifically the role of emotion in agency and free will. I am currently working on projects relating to the possibility of robot emotions, the classification of mental states and the metaphysics of social kinds.
I have experience of teaching on Philosophy of Mind, Philosophy of Science, History of Philosophy, Introduction to Logic, Hegel and Marx, Existentialism, and Phenomenology. My teaching is informed by my research. For example, my research in social kinds and social ontology affects both the methodology and the content of my teaching in terms of addressing diversity or equality issues and discussing ways in which theoretical insights can have practical applications and bring about social change.
Dr Lydia Farina"
