Philosophy Student Prize Winners

Each year, exceptional students within the Philosophy department are recognised. We would like to wish all recipients of the award a huge congratulations on all their hardwork to achieve these and stand out among their peers.

There are five awards given across undergraduate and MA which include:

  • The Jim Lees Prize (donated by His Honour Richard Benson) - Awarded to the 2nd year student or students with the best overall performance on the single honours philosophy degree. 

  • Michael Lumsden Essay Prize - the undergraduate judged to have written the best philosophy essay that year.

  • Outstanding Undergraduate Performance by a Joint Honours Student

  • Outstanding MA Student

  • Outstanding Undergraduate Performance by a Single Honours Student

2021 university-wide prize winner: Hope Chilokoa-Mullen

Hope Chilokoa-Mullen has won an Elizabeth and J.D. Marsden prize (second prize). These are University-wide prizes set up in 1953, and are ‘awarded to students who are adjudged the best students of the year – who have gained high distinction in their examinations, and who have throughout their University careers been of exemplary conduct and given proofs of outstanding character and personality.’
