Annual staff awards

As a School we want to celebrate our staff for their incredible contributions to the School of Medicine and the University of Nottingham. Every year we plan to hold these awards to celebrate our people.

Nominate

Nominations are welcome from colleagues, collaborators and partners, from across the university and externally.

When nominating, please provide as much detail as possible on why you think your nominee(s) deserve an award, including specific examples of work carried out in the last 12 months and a clear explanation of the impact achieved, in no more than 500 words. 

Individuals or Teams can be nominated across all categories. ​​​​​​​

There is no limit to the number of nominations that can be made, but a new form must be completed each time.

  • Deadline for nominations - March 2023
  • Nominations are reviewed by the Annual Staff Awards Review Panel April/May 2023
  • Winners announced at celebratory event with key colleagues - June 2023

Categories

Dean’s Special Recognition

This award is in recognition of an individual or team which has made a significant positive impact to the School and wider University. It may be through long service in a particular area or function, significant innovation which has demonstrable impact, a sustained excellent contribution over many years in a particular field.

Early Career Researcher

This award recognises success amongst our early career researchers and may be given to an individual or team. It may extend to any activity led by an ECR individual/team which has enhanced the life and of the School and / or its educational or research aspirations.

Community Contribution

This award recognises the efforts of an individual or team in promoting the School and its work in the local community. This award may be for outreach activities, widening participation or other activities where the community has clearly benefited from the activities of the School.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Contribution

The School of Medicine is committed to promoting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in all that it does. This award will be given to an individual or team that has demonstrated a true commitment to advancing the EDI agenda in any aspect of work.

Honorary Staff Contribution

This award seeks to recognise an individual or team of honorary staff whose work has helped the School move forward in reaching its ambition for excellence in education and research.

Inspirational Leadership

This award recognises an individual or team who have demonstrated exceptional leadership across any aspect of the work of the School. It recognises leadership which has inspired other colleagues, and which demonstrates the core values integral to the University. This award is open to staff from across all job families and levels.

Welfare & Support Contribution

The school seeks to provide an effective support environment. This new award seeks to recognise an individual or team who have supported and guided the wellbeing of our students, staff or whole school community. It may extend to any activities where there is an impact on support, development, wellbeing, or welfare for community.

Philanthropic Contribution

This new award for the recognition of an individual or team for their philanthropic behaviours who have carried out charitable or other good works that have helped others, our local community or wider society.  It could include recognition of volunteering, or other forms of altruism.

Outstanding Team

This award seeks to recognise the collective efforts of a team within the School. It may be in any area related to the work of the School and will be in recognition to efforts which have yielded a significant benefit to the School in any aspect of its work.

Professional Services (APM and TS)

This award seeks to recognise individual or collective efforts of the Professional Services community within the School. Two separate awards are available for the APM and TS Professional Services respectively.  It may be in any area related to the work of the School, individuals/teams who have made a significant, positive or excellent contribution to the School.  This award is open to all Professional Services staff across the School and levels both individual or teams and combined teams of APM and TS can be submitted too.

Public Engagement Contribution

This award seeks to recognise an individual or team which has made a significant impact through engaging the public either at a local, national or international level. This award may be given to an individual or team who have showcased the educational and/or research strengths of the School.

Research Contribution

This award seeks to recognise an individual or team who has made a significant impact in terms of research. This may be demonstrated through a specific project, programme of research and may include research impact where demonstrable benefit to the local, national or international community is evident.

Teaching Contribution

This award recognises an individual or team who have demonstrated excellence in their teaching contribution at either the Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught or Postgraduate Research. It recognises both high levels of student satisfaction as well as innovation in teaching delivery.

Lorna Magowan Award for Service Excellence

This award recognises excellence in service of an individual or team across all job families and levels who have demonstrated excellent service by constantly delivering service that exemplifies the School's values

Student Experience

This award is in recognition of an individual or team who have enhanced the student experience. This may be for a specific group (e.g. specific course or module) of students or more broadly (e.g. PGTs across the School).  Individuals or teams working in either at the Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught or Postgraduate Research are eligible to apply for this award.
