Biography

Dr Brian Bell has worked with Professor Tony Avery for the last 12 years. He has published numerous papers on medication safety and has also worked with Dr, Sonali Shah on various projects that have looked at the experiences of adults with cerebral palsy.

Current Research

Dr Bell is currently working on several projects that look at prescribing safety including a review of the effectiveness of computerized prescribing alerts and a review that examines the effectiveness of interventions to reduce medication errors that may lead the adverse outcomes in patients. He is also working on a study that examines how GPs use SystmOne, which is a prescribing tool.

Past Research

He has conducted research at many universities in a diverse range of topics including:

  • The psychophysiological detection of deception
  • How child-parent interactions affect the child's physical functioning
  • Error detection and correction using various cognitive tasks
  • Antibiotic resistance fostered by antibiotic consumption
  • Prescribing safety
