Biography
Professor Taggar has been part of the University of Nottingham since qualifying as a GP in 2012, initially as a Clinical Assistant Professor (2012-2017) and then as Clinical Associate Professor, Head of Undergraduate Primary Care Education and Director of the Primary Care Education Unit (2017-present). He was awarded a personal Chair, becoming a Clinical Professor of Primary Care and Medical Education in August 2023. Professor Taggar enjoys combining his clinical role with research and teaching, and currently works at a CQC-Rated Outstanding GP practice in Nottingham.
Professor Taggar is passionate about developing and innovating Primary Care education and combines this with improving population health through research in atrial fibrillation, cardiovascular prevention and tobacco control. Additionally, he has held a number of previous roles including the National Institute for Health & Care Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network Specialty Lead for Primary Care, National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) Guideline Committee member (Atrial Fibrillation), NIHR Research for Patient Benefit Panel. He also currently works as a Non-Executive Director, University Hospitals of Derby & Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

Professor Taggar leads an award-winning team (the Primary Care Education Unit) to deliver high-quality NHS GP education to over 2000 students per annum in over 200 GP practices across the East Midlands. Education provision also includes the deliver of over 1,000 teaching sessions per year to undergraduates. In addition to leadership and strategic oversight of all taught courses in undergraduate primary care education, Professor Taggar teaches on the courses run by Primary Care across all years of the medical curriculum involving topics such as ethics, communication and consultation skills and managing long-term conditions.
