Professor Sarah Lewis undertook her undergraduate degree in Mathematics with Statistics at the University of Nottingham, graduating in 1987. She then completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, undertook secondary school mathematics teaching, and gained a Masters in Medical Statistics from Leicester, before returning to Nottingham to study for her PhD in Respiratory Epidemiology, gained in 1997. She was promoted to Lecturer in 1997, Senior Lecturer in 2001 and to a chair in medical statistics in 2007. She is currently Deputy Head of the Division of Epidemiology and Public Health and the divisional lead for teaching.

Professor Lewis teaches statistical methods and epidemiology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as supervising PhD students. She is part of the curriculum team and Admissions Tutor for the Masters in Public Health.
Professor Lewis's main research interest is design and evaluation of health care interventions and policy, specifically in the areas of tobacco control interventions and policy, health care delivery for older people and people with dementia, and evaluation of nudge interventions in secondary care.
She currently is statistical lead, or provides statistical expertise, in projects including:
