Mahesh Puthanveedu

Postdoctoral Research Associate, Faculty of Science

Dr Mahesh Puthanveedu is a Research Associate at the Biodiscovery Institute, School of Pharmacy, University of Nottingham. He is currently involved in an MRC-funded GPCR drug discovery and chemical biology project.

Mahesh earned his PhD degree in natural sciences from the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology in Dortmund, Germany, under the guidance of Prof. Andrey Antonchick and Prof. Herbert Waldmann. During his graduate studies, he focused on developing novel reaction methodologies for synthesizing biologically relevant molecules and their application in the synthesis of bioactive compounds. He also developed procedures for metal-free coupling reactions that operate under mild conditions and employed such reactions for the structure-activity relationship studies of chemical biology projects.

Before his PhD, Mahesh studied medicinal chemistry at NIPER, India, where he worked on various transition metal catalysis projects in Dr Indu Bhusan Deb's laboratory at CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology. He earned his undergraduate degree in pharmacy from the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS).

He has published research articles and literature reviews in reputed journals and has contributed to a book chapter and an international patent.
