Teaching Associate, Faculty of Science
I graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Chemistry from the University of Huddersfield in 2014. I undertook my PhD studies in the Department of Pharmacy at the same institution, under the supervision of Professor Laura Waters and Dr Karl Hemming, investigating the effect of the surface modification and functionalisation of PDMS membranes on the permeation of topically applied pharmaceutical ingredients. I was afforded the opportunity to assist in the supervision of multiple undergraduate and post-graduate research projects, in addition to assisting in the delivery of the practical element of a 'drug synthesis, metabolism, and analysis' module and 'Chemistry workshops for Pharmacists'. During this time, I was granted a 'Thank you award' for post-graduate teaching.
Inspired to further pursue teaching, following the completion of my PhD, I undertook my Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at the University of Nottingham with a Royal Society of Chemistry Teacher Training Scholarship. I completed my NQT and RQT training years at West Park School in Derby, where I acted as the lead contact for the Royal Society of Chemistry Teach Chemistry Partnership. My key areas of interest are the public understanding of science (PUS), using metacognitive skills to enhance teaching and learning within the pharmaceutical sciences, and facilitating equitable access to higher education.
