1.0 Purpose

To meet and assure our Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) compliance and Ofsted regulatory requirements, two specific processes are undertaken on a regular basis throughout the academic year:

Tri-partite reviews (TPRs) and Monthly Progress reviews.Monthly Progress Reviews form part of the University’s apprenticeship Compliance Framework which feeds into institutional governance of apprenticeships.

For information on Tri-partite reviews, please see the ‘related regulations, policies and procedures’ section below.

2.0 Key Principles

All recruiting degree apprenticeship programmes are required to undertake this review processes.

A Monthly Progress Reviews must happen individually for every apprenticeship programme every month (12 x per calendar year). They are chaired by the Senior Quality, Compliance and Reporting Officer in the Institute of Professional Workbased Learning (or their delegate) and include the relevant Programme Director, Senior Operations Manager, Employer Engagement Manager, Degree Apprenticeship Officer, and Skills Tutor (where relevant) and assess the progress and compliance of learners on programme, and identify any risks to an apprentice’s success, as outlined in the Compliance Framework (please see the ‘related regulations, policies and procedures’ section below).

Monthly Progress Reviews monitor the those risks along with the actions to take at specific trigger points should any risks or issues be identified. Monthly Progress Reviews inform the Apprenticeship Risk Register.

Learners that have a risk to progress/completion of their apprenticeship are monitored and managed to bring them to compliance, or removal from programme. Data from Monthly Progress Reviews informs the monthly data and funding return (the Individualised Learner Record ‘ILR’) to the Education & Skills Funding Agency, confirming the status of each apprentice and the ongoing entitlement to monthly funding.
